Eric Cantor and Bigotry on the Right

This will be a short one....
From Think Progress:

Cantor Suggests Anti-Semitism Is A Problem Within The House GOP Caucus
A few weeks ago, the House GOP was up in arms over House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R-VA) $25,000 donation to anti-incumbent candidate Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), who ultimately defeated his opponent, incumbent Rep. Don Manzullo (R-IL). But the story got a little more fraught when it turned out that Manzullo once said Cantor would not be “saved” because he is Jewish.
the article goes on to say:
Today, Cantor, the only Jewish House Republican, nearly affirmed that this was the reason he fought against Manzullo’s re-election, insinuating that anti-Semitism — and racism — are lingering problems among the House GOP generally. He speaking at a breakfast event organized by Politico
Calling it the “darker side,” Cantor responded to Politico’s Mike Allen’s question of whether there is anti-semitism in Congress by trying to avoid commenting. But eventually he let up: “I think that all of us know that in this country, we’ve not always gotten it right in terms of racial matters, religous matters, whatever. We continue to strive to provide equal treatment to everybody.”
“We’re talking about the House Republican Caucus, not America,” Allen pushed.

Just look at Cantor's reaction after Allen's last question.

He can't answer it because he knows his party is an embarrassment when it comes to cultural insensitivity and bigotry. Look at the candidacy of racist Ron Paul. Look at the support that dominionists who loved Rick Santorum have within the Republican Party.

A rightwing hack writing on a hate site made the outrageous comment that anti-Semitism wasn't a problem here in America and that only because of Muslims was it still an issue. Well... I don't see a ton of Muslims in the House Republican Caucus. Do you?

Get the word out to your friends and independents that this is a serious election and that these people are not kidding around when it comes to bigotry and hatred. Putting them in charge of the White House and Congress can only end in disaster for the American people.

Certain right-wing hate site hacks lead a rather sheltered life. If they lived in the real world, they would understand that the condition that Eric Cantor has in effect admitted to is not all that uncommon among those with a right-wing perspective. Putting aside for a moment the whole Israel thing, over several decades of professional life (i.e., working in the real world) I have observed that hostility toward Jews in the workplace is far more prevalent among conservative-minded individuals than among liberals and progressives. I'm not talking about political discussions, but just how people deal with one another day to day, like -- for example -- the reactions of people when Jews get promotions, and the reactions displayed when Jews don't get promotions. From my perspective, it is not even close -- right-wingers are far more likely to be hostile toward Jews than left-wingers. Antisemtism among conservatives is far greater than what people talk about, and it goes to issues of basic decency, respect, and tolerance.

  2. Must be that... or they are simply lazy (well that and racist to the core).

I grew up in a town that was all Irish and Italian working class. There are many really cool people that came from there and I remain friends with many of the people that I grew up with. BUT... there was a ton of anti-Semitism there as well. It was exactly what you see at work. Nothing too overt but it exists. Even now in my daily life, people that live in my neighborhood who I deal with all the time in very positive ways once in a while will uncork some beauties, not even thinking about it. And then they will say them to me thinking that I am one of the "good ones".

These are all conservative people who vote hard Republican and can be counted on to vote that way each. and. every. time. It's amazing to see Jews who make excuses for Conservative/Republican anti-Semitism. They have no clue... it's like they live in a box with no windows, no doors and only a computer to feed them endless amounts of propaganda. For them, they would rather whine about Muslim anti-Semitism, when it is Christian anti-Semitism that has been the most lethal to us. The Holocaust happened in Christian Europe JUST 70 years ago - yet to them they want to whine about Second Class citizenship in Muslim nations as if that is even close. AND while Jews certainly did suffer oppression in Islamic societies, they did not suffer nearly as much as they did in Christian societies EVEN up to and through the 20th Century.

Then some idiot had the gall to say that anti-Semitism in America was not an issue and really we had won that battle. Of course, the FBI hate crime statistics not too mention our own experiences put that to rest. The fact of the matter is that the Right in America is far more a danger to us than the Left. Why? Because the Right has much more power. Ten activists on various blogs don't have shit to do with running this country. But the Right... they have the U.S. House of Representatives. Need I say more?

  3. Gonna have to disagree with you 100% here KM....

Question for you: Where did I ever say that the House has the power to "run the country"? I don't see that at all. What I said was that I feel the Right is very dangerous and that it already has the house.

My comment was made in the context that there are bunch of people in the Right Wing Blogosphere who point to the 10-20 Bloggers at Daily Kos or Huff Po who are rabid anti-Semites and use them as examples for all people that are Liberal/Progressive. On the other hand the Hard Right, controls the U.S. House of Representatives. SO... who has more power, the anti-Semitic group of chuckleheads that call themselves Progressives or The U.S. House of Reps.?

As far as my bias.... Yes I am biased. You may have noticed the name of the site... "The Progressive Zionist" - pretty much a dead giveaway. I am a Progressive/Liberal and I am biased against Conservatives and Republicans. I don't agree with their vision regarding pretty much... anything.

As far as unchecked power of the Left... Heh...hahahahahahaha that is a good one. First of all, President Obama is not much of a Leftist. His policies are more in line with that of Moderate Republicans from the 1960's. Second of all, as for the media... IF the left has so much power how do you explain this:

The nonpartisan Pew Research Center Project for Excellence in Journalism has conducted an analysis of presidential race coverage throughout the primary season.

The study combined results of a computer-assisted analysis of the content and tone of more than 11,000 news outlets from Jan. 2 to April 15 and a more detailed examination of 52 key print, television, radio and online news outlets.

The report, released Monday, revealed a surprising truth: President Barack Obama's 2012 coverage was "consistently on the negative side."....

In fact, the study's authors found, "Of all the presidential candidates studied in this report, only one figure did not have a single week in 2012 when positive coverage exceeded negative coverage - the incumbent, Democrat Barack Obama.

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, meanwhile, fared much better with the media. In six of the 15 weeks studied, he received mostly favorable coverage, and four additional weeks were about evenly divided between positive and negative.
